Royal Enfield’s long term target is developing markets: CEO Sidhartha Lal

Royal Enfield has finally launched the Meteor 350, which has been four years in the making. Sidhartha Lal, the CEO of Eicher Motors told CNBC-TV18 that the Meteor is an all new product platform and comes with a digital navigation device. He said the company will prioritize sales in Western markets, Japan and South Korea.

“We are absolutely delighted to be launching this new motorcycle the Meteor 350. It has been four year plus of making, we have done lots of test riding for the last 18 months on full production motorcycle so it is a full new development cycle,” he said.

Talking about expansion Lal said, “There is a lot of move towards personal transportation around the world, people are just bit more wary of public transportation for the time being because of COVID. The markets with higher spending power are western markets - so markets like Europe, US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea so these are markets where we are in a very sweet spot. Our long term interest in the next 5-10-15-20 years is all in developing markets.”
