Over the last few months, there have been sporadic incidents of electric vehicles, especially e-scooters catching fire - this, comes as a major concern for users at a time when the government has put its weight behind electric mobility. Two separate incidents in Pune and Vellore have raised major questions over safety mechanisms in electric vehicles (EVs). To discuss the possible reasons behind the EV fires and the lessons that could be derived, CNBC-TV18 spoke to Abraham Joseph, CTO at Bajaj Auto and Rashmi Urdhwareshe, Former Director of ARAI.

Over the last few months, there have been sporadic incidents of electric vehicles, especially e-scooters catching fire - this, comes as a major concern for users at a time when the government has put its weight behind electric mobility. Two separate incidents in Pune and Vellore have raised major questions over safety mechanisms in electric vehicles (EVs).

The government is taking incidents of e-scooters catching fire seriously - the road ministry has written to the Centre for Fire Explosive and Environment Safety (CFEES) which is arm of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) seeking a thorough investigation of both the incidents.
To discuss the possible reasons behind the EV fires and the lessons that could be derived, CNBC-TV18 spoke to Abraham Joseph, CTO at Bajaj Auto and Rashmi Urdhwareshe, Former Director of ARAI.
