Karnataka government lifts ban on Ola

Updated : March 25, 2019 09:22 PM IST

Ola is back in Karnataka after being banned for six months on March 22. The Karnataka transport department had put a six-month ban on Ola for illegally operating bike taxis.

The company's license was reinstated after it paid penalty of Rs 15 lakh. Ola had introduced a pilot for bike taxis in 2016 but had to stop after objection from the government. The company reintroduced the service in Bengaluru in February, again calling it a pilot project.

Ola plies over 1 lakh cabs in Bengaluru & has 1 million driver partners across India. The Karnataka transport commissioner has asked for drivers to be treated well and duty hours to be fixed.
