Electric scooters can work in India with an improved infrastructure, says Uber's Jump

Updated : March 06, 2019 09:07 PM IST

Uber-owned Jump on Tuesday said electric scooters can work in India with an improved infrastructure in the country.

In an exclusive chat with CNBC-TV18's Jude Sannith in Santa Monica, Ryan Zepecki, founder and chief executive officer, said India has basic road infrastructure challenges and the country has a chance to leapfrog in infrastructure development.

Zepecki said, "I think there is something that can work in India as the infrastructure needs improvement over the next couple of years. There is definitely a need and there are huge transportation challenges. The public transport systems are often very crowded and being able to push demand into these electric modes, I think it will be really successful. There are many challenges in the market, so we are interested in learning more and figuring out the right time to enter."
