Farm laws passed without required consultations, says Former Agri Secy Siraj Hussain

Updated : December 05, 2020 09:34 PM IST

The 5th round of meetings between the central government and farmer leaders ended inconclusively. The next round of talks will now be held on December 9.

Former Agriculture Secretary Siraj Hussain said that the reason for this stalemate is that the ordinances have become laws without required consultations.

“I feel sorry for the government and also for the farmers because all this would not have taken place if due consultations within the standing committee of parliament and with the state government, other stakeholders, academics, researchers, etc. had taken place before the bill was placed in parliament,” he said in an interview to CNBC-TV18.

Agreeing to Hussain’s view, Nikhil Dey, Founder of Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan said that this is first an issue of democracy and that the government has misread the farmers from the very beginning.
