Despite harsh resistance from Opposition parties, the Upper House of Parliament passed farm Bills on September 20. The bill allow farmers to sell their produce outside APMCs and also allows contract farming so companies can pre-decide the price they would pay and how much crop they would procure. To find out the impact of the Bills on companies like ITC with strong agri-linkages and the e-Chaupal network, NCBC-TV18 spoke to S Sivakumar, Group Head of Agri and IT business.
First up, he stated that the passage of the farm Bill is a transformative change for agriculture as it will be in a position to change the sector's supply chain into a more demand-responsive production system. All stakeholders would go on to benefit the the Bills, he added.Watch the video for more.
