BSNL is in talks with Softbank for using OneWeb's communication satellites, reported The Economic Times.
The move, if it becomes a reality will likely bring big changes to the country’s telecom sector.
As per the report, BSNL chairman Anupam Shrivastava said that its executives have already made a presentation in front of their Softbank counterparts regarding how it plans to use the satellites that offers ‘huge volume of bandwidth with low latency that can be used for consumer as well as enterprise voice and data services.’
Softbank owns 40% stake in OneWeb that along with Airbus, SoftBank and Bill Gates are putting up a constellation of low orbit satellites to provide broadband to remote areas, the report said.
As per the reports the connectivity provided by this system will be way better than those provided through GSM and optical fibre cable platforms.
“If it succeeds, it has the potential to disrupt all telecom service providers worldwide. This technology will only need a gateway to pump bandwidth and distribute anywhere in the world,” Shrivastava was quoted saying regarding the deal.
