Reliance Jio’s optical fiber-based Jio GigaFiber is likely to revolutionalise the country's broadband market once it's commercially launched next year.
Although the service is available in some cities like Mumbai and Pune, it is expected to be rolled out commercially in March, according to a India Today report.
The wired internet service from Jio will compete against companies like Airtel, BSNL, MTNL, ACT Fibernet, Spectra and Hathway, the report said.
As per the report, the service will offer a top speed of up to 1 gigabyte and will be rolled out across 1100 cities in the country connecting five crore Indian homes. The report said that the registration for the offer can be done via MyJio app or Jio.com for free.
Besides, the customers will get free 100 GB monthly data at the speed of up to 100Mbps for 90 days. Reports suggest that the service will come with plans at reasonably low prices starting at Rs 500.
Disclosure: RIL, the promoter of Reliance Jio, also controls Network18, the parent company of CNBCTV18.com.
