Online streaming platform Netflix is testing a mobile-only subscription with select users in India as it looks to expand its user base in the country, The Economic Times reported.
A Netflix spokesperson confirmed the development to the ET and said they are testing different options in select countries where members can watch Netflix on their phones for a lower price.
Netflix, the report said quoting sources, will charge Rs 250 per month for the mobile-only plan, which is half of the Rs 500 monthly pricing Netflix had launched as its entry-level plan in the country.
The mobile-only plan will allow subscribers to watch standard definition (SD) content on a single mobile or tablet screen at a time, the paper said, adding that the mobile-only tier will be separate from the existing monthly subscription plan that ranges between Rs 500-800 based on video quality and the number of people using the same account or concurrent screens.
