Madras High Court overturns TikTok ban: Here’s what happened in the court

Updated : April 25, 2019 07:51 AM IST

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court has lifted the ban on the downloads of short-form video app TikTok, providing huge relief to the Chinese company that counts India as its largest market.
While the court passed orders overturning the ban, it also clarified that the ban was imposed solely because the bench was “worried about crimes against children.”
As per analytics firm Sensor Tower, the app, which allows the users to make and share short videos, has been downloaded by nearly 300 million people so far in India, out of more than 1 billion downloads globally.
