India will be launching the eighth Indian Remote Navigation Satellite System satellite in the series, IRNSS-1I, after the previous one in failed to reach space.
The satellite launch, lined up for tomorrow, is being launched just under a year after the failed IRNSS-1H launch on August 31, last year.
The 1,425-kilo IRNSS-1H failed to disconnect from its PSLV launch vehicle to the designated polar orbit, as the heat shield, which protected the satellite, failed to separate. The heat shield was to be separated after three minutes. ISRO declared the mission to be unsuccessful after waiting for 19 minutes.
The IRNSS satellite series helps to join the NavIC navigation satellite constellation in Earth's polar orbit. New and more technologically advanced IRNSS satellites are required to replace the worn-out satellites which give real-time map updates and take into account the geographical changes.
The mission is taking place within two weeks after ISRO launched GSAT-6A on board GSLV Mk-II in March. The mission, though declared successful after placing the GSAT-6A in orbit, the space agency lost communication with the satellite.
