Have you recently got yourself an iPhone and are relatively new to it? Or do you belong to that group of people who, despite being iPhone loyalists, don’t fiddle around with your phone a lot and, as a result, don’t know much about ways to get done things easily and fast? If you belong to any of these above categories, fret not!
We will take you through a host of gestures that can reveal some hidden menus on your iPhone and how to access them easily. These menus will help you like navigate across apps, search the entire phone, go back to the last screen, access widgets, find shortcuts quickly, or even turn your Wi-Fi off and on using shortcuts.
Here are some of the hidden screens you may not be aware of. Once you know where they are, they will prove to be very useful.
Reach the top of the screen without stretching your fingers
This is very useful if you have a big iPhone or small hands. Using an option called ‘reachability’, you can quickly access the icons at the top of the phone screen without having to stretch your fingers. The ‘reachability’ option lowers the screen down. But you need to turn on this option, which is off by default. Here’s how to do it: Settings > Accessibility > Touch. > Reachability (switch it on).
Using Control Center on iPhone
Swiping up from the top middle of your home screen brings up your recent notifications. But do you know that you can also swipe down from the top-right of your screen? This opens Control Center, where you have controls for quick access to common functions — turning on the flashlight, recognising a song with Spotify, toggling Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on/off, etc. Here’s how to choose what appears in Control Center: Settings > Control Center > Scroll down & tap the green button next to any option you want to see when you swipe from the top-right
Know how to use widgets on iPhone
There is an entire section that’s hidden, dedicated to widgets on the left of the home screen. To access it, you have to swipe right across the screen.
Here’s how to do it: Swipe right across the home screen till you get the widget panel with the Search bar > Scroll down and tap ‘Edit’ > hit + button > choose widget > tap Add Widget.
In case, you don’t find the widget you want to add, you have to take this extra step: After you tap ‘Edit’, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and choose ‘Customize’ > hit green + button to add a widget.
Switch between apps fast
To change apps swiftly, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and then hold till you feel a vibration. Swipe right to navigate through apps. Tap any of the apps to switch to it, or swipe up to close. You can also switch between apps by swiping right or left across the bottom of the screen.
Search everything together on your iPhone
Search through apps, Internet, maps, files, etc., using iPhone’s universal search menu. Just swipe down from the centre of the home screen.
