GoPro to target mass market with latest 'Hero' launch
GoPro is set to launch the latest iteration of its iconic camera, the GoPro Hero, as it looks to regain its hold on the competitive action camera market, according to a report in Slash Gear.
The camera, which is targeted at the mass market, is priced at $199, and sports downgraded internal hardware compared to its predeccesors.
The camera comes with a 10 megapixel sensor, and supports 2K videos at 60 frames per second. It also relies on software for image stabilisation, commonly known as electronic image stabilisation (EIS), instead of the more expensive optical image stabilisation (OIS) solution.
The model will be available in country via a popular e-commerce site. The pre-order facility will be available from Friday onwards through the site.
High-end cameras in smartphones and an over-saturated market have hit the action-camera maker's sales. Shares in the company have fallen about 36 percent this year.
Earlier this year, the company said it was open to a buyout offer, but it was not actively looking for a buyer.
