Apple has shortlisted a few locations in India to launch its first retail store, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the plans, adding that the company has zeroed in on several upscale sites in the financial capital Mumbai.
The company is planning to make a final decision on the same in the next few weeks, sources, who did not want to be named, told Bloomberg.
According to the report, the shortlisted sites are comparable to iconic Apple locations on Fifth Avenue in New York, London's Regent Street or the Champs-Elysees in Paris.
The company, which has been barred from launching its own stores in India due to domestic manufacturing requirements, is shifting its manufacturing into the country, the report said, adding that it is currently holding talks with the government regarding its retail expansion.
India requires retail companies to manufacture 30 percent of their products in the country.
