Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh, ICC T20 World Cup 2021 highlights: Asalanka, Rajapaksa fifties carry SL across the finish line
  • That brings us to the end of our live coverage from this game but don't go anywhere as we have the main attraction of the night coming right up. India vs Pakistan takes off at 7:30 PM IST. Follow all the live updates here

  • Charith Asalanka, Player of the Match: Happy that I could help Sri Lanka win the game. It looked like a very good pitch when I walked out to bat, so I tried to play my shots. Rajapaksha was the game changer, he played a few wonderful shots. I want to keep this up and keep winning games for my country.

  • Brilliant batting display from Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa to carry Sri Lanka across the finish line. Bangladesh would've thought they had enough runs on the board but these two came out all guns blazing to leave the Tigers stunned.

  • Ahmed starts with a quick delivery onto the stumps which Rajapaksa reverse-sweeps for 2 runs. BOWLED! Rajapaksa completely misses the ball with the attempted cut on the next ball and has to return to the dugout. Dasun Shanaka walks out to bat and quickly gets off the mark with a single. Asalanka dances down and lofts the 4th ball over point for 2 runs. He then gets a thick outside edge on the next ball for FOUR to grab the winning runs.

Sri Lanka 172/5 after 18.5 overs.

  • FOUR! Asalanka reaches out to guide the ball past short third man and seal victory! What an innings by the youngster.

  • The bowling change does the trick as Rajapaksa looks to cut but misses completely with the ball crashing into the stumps. He's done well though and put Sri Lanka in control with his blistering fifty.

    Rajapaksa b Nasum Ahmed 53 (31)

  • Nasum Ahmed [2.0-0-20-1] returns to the attack.

  • Asalanka lets the 1st ball travel back to the keeper then taps the next delivery to the off-side for a single. Mustafizur nails the wide yorker on the 3rd ball and Rajapaksa doesn’t manage to get any bat onto it. Rajapaksa opens the face of his bat to guide the 4th ball past short third man for 2 runs. That also brings up the FIFTY for the birthday boy! What a way to celebrate. He rotates strike with a single off the next ball. Asalanka has a swing at the last ball but it’s another good wide yorker which travels back to the keeper. 9 needed off 12 now.

Sri Lanka 163/4 after 18 overs.

  • FIFTY up for Rajapaksa! 50 (28)

  • Mustafizur Rahman [2.0-0-18-0] returns to the attack.

  • Asalanka skips out on the 1st ball but Shakib drags it back forcing the batter to flick through square leg for a single. Rajapaksa swings hard over deep midwicket on the next ball and Naim does brilliantly as he takes the catch but has to throw it in just before his momentum took him across the ropes giving away just 2 runs. Rajapaksa nudges the 3rd ball to square leg for a run. Asalanka blocks out the 4th ball and then frees his arms up as he sends the next ball flying over the boundary for SIX. He ends the over with a sensible single to keep strike. 13 needed off 18 now.

Sri Lanka 159/4 after 17 overs.

  • SIX! Asalanka makes room and smacks the full delivery high over long-off for a maximum.

  • Shakib Al Hasan [2.0-0-6-2] comes back into the attack.

  • Horrible start to the over by Saifudden as he sees Rajapaksa dispatch the first three balls for 6, 6 and 4. Rajapaksa mistimes the slog on the 4th ball and picks up a single. Asalanka lifts the 5th ball down the ground for a run. Rajapaksa takes stance for the final delivery and he’s in a mighty rush as he smacks it over cover for FOUR. 22 runs from the over as the asking rate comes down to just six. 24 needed off 24 balls.

Sri Lanka 148/4 after 16 overs.

  • FOUR! Rajapaksa is on a roll as he sends the last ball of the over flying over extra cover for yet another boundary.

  • FOUR! And another boundary this time Rajapaksa reaches out and slices it over short third man to find the boundary.

  • SIX! Back-to-back sixes now as Rajapaksa gets down on one knee and slogs it over deep mid-wicket.

  • SIX! Slower delivery down leg from Saifudden and Rajapaksa sends it flying high over fine leg for a maximum.

  • Mohammad Saifuddin [2.0-0-16-1] comes back into the attack.

  • Rajapakse does the sensible thing and dabs the 1st ball to third man for a single to get Asalanka on strike. Good delivery from Mustafizur forces Asalanka to only dig it back to the bowler. The next ball is wide down leg and he has to reload. DROPPED! Liton Das hangs his dead down in disappointment as he does well to get to the ball but lets it slip right through as Asalanka grabs a single. Mustafizur sends another wide down leg and has to reload. Rajapaksa grabs a single off the 5th ball and Mustafizur ends with a short ball outside off which Asalanka pulls out of at the last moment. 5 runs off the over. 46 needed from 30 balls now.

Sri Lanka 126/4 after 15 overs.

  • DROPPED! What a massive mistake. Asalanka slaps it to deep cover and Liton Das gets under the ball but it slips right through his palms.

  • Mustafizur Rahman [1.0-0-13-0] is back into the attack.

  • Asalanka is on a blinder here. He glides down the track and dispatches the 2nd ball from Mahmudullah high down the ground for SIX. He then repeats the trick on the 4th delivery this time with a slog sweep over deep square leg for another SIX. 16 runs come off the over. Sri Lanka need 51 from 36 balls now.

Sri Lanka 121/4 after 14 overs.

  • Amid all the chaos around him  Asalanka reaches his fifty. He will have to stay till the end if SL has any chance to win the match.

  • Rajapakshe’s massive inside out six brings the equation down to 76 from 47 balls> Pressure now on Afif.

  • SL 80/4 after 10 overs. Need 92 in last 10.

  • Bangladesh on top after three quick wickets put SL on back foot

Srilanka is struggling at 79/4 in 9.3 overs after three quick wickets put pressure back on the Lankans. First Shakib took the wickets of set batter Nissanka followed by the wicket of Fernando for a duck. Pinch hitter perished trying to clear the boundary against  Saifuddin.

  • Mahedi Hasan with a tidy over as he doesn’t give the batters any opportunity to free their arms. It’s a good start by Sri Lanka though and they don’t need to take any risks this early into the run chase. 4 runs come from the over all in the form of singles.

Sri Lanka 71/1 after 8 overs.

  • Mustafizur comes straight into the attack after the powerplay but is welcomed with a strong drive from Asalanka for FOUR. Both batters grab singles off the next two balls. Mustafizur bangs the 4th ball short and Asalanka gets a dangerous edge which escapes to third man for FOUR. Asalanka guides the next ball to point for a run. Nissanka finds the gap through extra cover for 2 runs on the final delivery.

Sri Lanka 67/1 after 7 overs.

  • FOUR! Mustafizur draws a thick edge with the short ball to Asalanka but there's no slip and it escapes to the boundary.
