Expect Mumbai to be a multi-channel city for company, says IKEA India Chief Peter Betzel
The recall of 'Made in India' travel mugs will not have any larger impact on local sourcing in India, instead the company is planning to double source, said Peter Betzel, managing director, IKEA India.

"The recall is for safety of our consumers, our customers and co-workers. They found some chemicals in that and although they were not dangerous, we did not allow that. We have very high standards and these were not met in the 'mugs case, so carefully we took them back," said Betzel.

According to him, the Mumbai IKEA store in Navi Mumbai would  be opened in the next few months. The big store in Navi Mumbai would open this summer and then we have plans for other big cities too, he said, adding that the city where they would like it to be truly multi-channel would be Mumbai.

"We will add to our big stores, they are very important for us because here you have everything under one roof. In cities like Mumbai, we would like to be more accessible, so we will have two more stores with a smaller format in this city. We will have two of this more in cities in the coming 12 months.”
