In an effort to meet the increasing demand for low-calorie drinks, cola companies like Pepsi and Coca-Cola have reached a sweet spot in the healthier beverage market with higher production of low-sugar carbonated drinks this summer, the Economic Times

reported.

“We have never seen this kind of shortage of diet and low-sugar drinks. We are seeing this across markets in the country,” ET quoted one of its sources as saying, adding that the production has been stepped up to meet the demand.

In an event of a shortage of the diet version, imported diet and low-sugar cola have flooded the retail outlets, the report added. One of the industry sources aware of the development told ET that the demand for diet or low-sugar carbonated drinks is on the rise but declined to comment on the rise in production.

“Our differentiated portfolio follows the tastes and preferences of consumers and we will continue to meet the demand for low-to-no sugar offerings in the country,” the Coca-Cola India spokesperson was quoted as saying by ET.

“We are seeing positive growth momentum across our beverage portfolio, including diet and low sugar drinks,” the PepsiCo India spokesperson told ET.
