    Uttar Pradesh assembly election result highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing the cadres of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party's Delhi headquarters, hailing the big win in four states, particularly Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath in his victory speech had hailed PM Modi saying the BJP's “double engine” government had given a sense of security to the people in the last five years, and that the saffron party had worked for the development of state. The BJP has won 182 seats and is leading in another 71 seats, as per the Election Commission data. The rival, Samajwadi Party has bagged 66 seats, while leading in another 46 seats.

    • Fazilnagar Election Result 2022 LIVE: BJP's Surendra Kumar Kushwaha wins against SP's Swami Prasad Maurya

      Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Surendra Kumar Kushwaha has defeated Samajwadi Party's Swami Prasad Maurya the Fazilnagar constituency of Uttar Pradesh by a margin of 45,014 votes. Fazilnagar is an assembly constituency in the Kushinagar district, in the North East region of the state of Uttar Pradesh. The Fazilnagar legislative assembly constituency went to polls on March 3, 2022. The assembly seat is reserved for the General category and it falls in the Deoria Lok Sabha constituency.

    • UP assembly polls: BJP's Aditi Singh wins from Raebareli

      Aditi Singh, who had quit as a sitting Congress MLA to join the BJP ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, on Thursday won the Raebareli Sadar seat, according to official results. Aditi Singh, a second generation politician, is the daughter of the late Akhilesh Singh, a former five-term MLA from Raebareli Sadar, not long ago considered a Congress bastion. Aditi got 1.02 lakh votes after an intense electoral fight with nearest rival Ram Pratap Yadav of the Samajwadi Party who polled 95,254 votes, the Election Commission website showed. Her victory margin was 7,175 votes, according to the EC. Congress' Manish Singh got 14,954 votes and stood third among the contestants while the BSP's Mohd Ashraf managed 9,331 votes, while 2,281 voters opted for NOTA (none of the above) option on the EVM, it showed. The seat had gone to polls on February 23.

      As the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is all set to return to power in Uttar Pradesh with Yogi Adityanath as the Chief Minister for the second time in a row, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed his party’s cadre and thanked voters for the big win in Uttar Pradesh as well as Uttarakhand, and Manipur. “Uttar Pradesh has given many prime ministers to the country. But this is the first instance of a Chief Minister who has completed a five-year term has been re-elected. After 37 years, a government has come to power in Uttar Pradesh for the second time in a row,” Modi said in his speech at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. The BJP has managed to retain Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur, the states it ruled for the last five years and with the exception of Uttarakhand, it has seen a rise in the vote share as well.

      As election results of various seats continue to pour in, the 'NOTA' option on electronic voting machines has garnered more votes than those polled in favour of some prominent political parties in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. According to the website of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the vote share of NOTA (none of the above) in the state assembly election stood at 0.69 percent, eclipsing the vote share of AAP (0.35 percent) and JD-U (0.11 percent). The vote share of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) was recorded at 0.47 percent.

The BJP has retained all four states – Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa. Modi said, “It is a day of celebration of democracy. I thank the voters, especially women voters and youngsters. BJP workers had promised that Holi will begin on March 10. They fulfilled it. They worked hard to gain people’s trust. Every worker has hit a four of victory for the NDA. The vote share has increased in Goa, UP and Manipur too. For the first time, a BJP CM will be elected for the second term in UP in 37 years. The BJP has created new history in Uttarakhand too.”

      With the BJP having put up an impressive show in four out of the five states that went to polls recently, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Thursday asserted that people have reposed their faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. Deb, during a programme at a school in Unakoti district, stated that those involved in politics for gains have been rejected by voters. "Uttar Pradesh had witnessed a fierce farmers' agitation and some thought that these farmers would be able to topple the BJP-led government in Lucknow. But the reality is that the voters have reposed their faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath," he said.

      After it suffered a crushing defeat in the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, Congress general secretary in-charge of the state Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday said party workers and leaders worked hard but failed to convert that into votes, and asserted that the Congress would continue to fulfil its duty as a combative opposition. Despite an aggressive campaign pitch by Priyanka Gandhi, the Congress failed to make an impact in the polls and won one while was leading on another out of the 403 assembly seats. "The vote of the people is paramount in a democracy. Our workers and leaders worked hard, established the organisation, fought on the issues of the people. But, we were not able to convert our hard work into votes," Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi. "The Congress party, for the betterment of UP and the people, will continue to fulfil the duty of a combative opposition by following a positive agenda," she said.

      The BJP has won 182 seats and is leading in another 71 seats, as per the Election Commission data. The rival, Samajwadi Party has bagged 66 seats, while leading in another 46 seats.

    • Ex-top cop and BJP candidate Asim Arun wins from Kannauj

      Asim Arun, who had quit the Indian Police Service (IPS) and joined the BJP, won from Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj assembly constituency on Thursday, according to official results. Making his electoral debut, the former Kanpur police commissioner has dented Kannauj, which was known as a Samajwadi Party bastion. Arun got over 1.20 lakh votes (or 44.53 per cent) defeating nearest rival Samajwadi Party's Anil Kumar Doharey by a margin of 6,090 votes, the Election Commission website showed. Doharey, who won the Kannauj seat in 2017 assembly polls, got 1.14 lakh votes (or 42.49 per cent) of the total votes polled, the EC showed. In 2017, Doharey had got 99,635 votes. Arun, a 1994-batch IPS officer, was an additional director general-rank officer serving as the Kanpur Police Commissioner when he sought VRS on January 8.

    In 2017, BJP had won 312 seats on its own while the NDA's figure was 325. The SP had won 47, BSP 19 and the Congress had won seven seats, two less than Apna Dal (S) at nine. The BJP went in the polls this time with Apna Dal (Sonelal) and Nishad party while Akhilesh Yadav had formed a rainbow coalition with RLD and a string of regional parties, including Om Prakash Rajbhar's Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP).
    Earlier, the counting of votes polled in the crucial Uttar Pradesh elections or UP vidhan sabha chunav began at 8 am on Thursday, March 10. The voting for the politically-important state was done in seven rounds starting February 10.
