Supreme Court sticks to NRC deadline of July 31, directs Assam NRC coordinator to take ex-parte decisions on objections

Updated : May 08, 2019 08:42 PM IST

The court order today stated that the state coordinator is "free to deal with all incidental issues, that may arise, in his wise discretion and in accordance with law".
The direction by the court came after Hajela explained the entire matter of objections to the bench, citing how the complainants are not appearing before the panels during the hearing process.
The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) restored faith on the judiciary, and appealed to officials engaged in the process to work towards publishing a "Bangladeshi-free NRC".
