Nine Indian children, orphans of Islamic State, wait in Afghan prison as government debates their fate

Updated : January 31, 2020 09:06 AM IST

The children’s mothers are widows of Indian jihadists who fought with the Islamic State in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province.
Families of the children are appealing for government intervention to have the children returned to India.
A senior government official familiar with the case said that the children remained in prison because their mothers were their legal custodians.
