Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Tejaswi Surya on Thursday won the Bangalore South Lok Sabha seat by defeating Congress veteran BK Hariprasad by a margin of 3.31 lakh votes.

According to Election Commission, Surya has polled 7,392,29 votes while Hariprasad secured 4,080,37 votes.

The 28-year-old lawyer is also the state general secretary for the Karnataka BJP’s youth wing.
Bangalore South Lok Sabha Constituency was vacant since the demise of BJP leader Ananth Kumar in November 2018. He had been representing the constituency since the year 1996. It has been a BJP stronghold since the year 1991.
In 2014, Ananth Kumar had defeated the Congress candidate Nandan Nilekani with a margin of 2,28,575 votes.
The Lok Sabha elections in 2019 took place in seven phases across India in the time span of about a month and a half.
