The first two results went in favour of the BJP as its candidates declared winners in Khargone and Ujjain, both reserved seats.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 28 out of 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on Thursday. The first two results went in favour of the BJP as its candidates declared winners in Khargone and Ujjain, both reserved seats.
The exit polls predicted a clean sweep win for Narendra Modi-led party on at least 26 out of 28 seats.
In 2014, the BJP won 26 of the 29 seats, with more than 54 percent of the vote share.
However, during the state's assembly elections, the party lost its popularity in the state after 15 years after Congress had a clean victory in Madhya Pradesh, one of the three heartland states of BJP.
A majority for the BJP would strengthen the chances of a second term for Modi road and make it easier to form a government without the need for potentially pesky allies.
Indian market pared gains to end lower on profit booking after the indices hit record high in intra-day deals on optimism of Modi win. Sensex was down 298.82 points or 0.76 percent to 38,811.39 and Nifty50 was at 11,657.05, 80.85 points or 0.69 percent.
