Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Pragya Singh Thakur defeated her nearest rival Digvijaya Singh of Congress in Bhopal by nearly 3.6 lakh votes and won the seat in Madhya Pradesh.

Thakur polled 8,66,482 votes while Singh has secured 5,01,660 votes, according to the Election Commission website.
About 13,54,601 votes were polled in the constituency where voting was held on May 12.
Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case,  recently kicked up a row with some of her remarks on Mahatma Gandhi.
The Bhopal Lok Sabha seat has been held by the BJP since 1989, where 25 percent of the voters are Muslim. The Bhopal constituency is spread over eight Assembly segments — Berasia, Bhopal Uttar, Narela, Bhopal South-West (Bhopal Dakshin-Paschim), Bhopal Central (Bhopal Madhya), Govindpura, Huzur and Sehore.
The Congress had last won the Bhopal seat in 1984.
Singh, who had served as the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh between 1993-2003, is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha.
Bhopal constituency is represented by BJP's Alok Sanjar, who had won the seat in 2014 by a margin of 3.70 lakh votes.
