Gujarat Exit Poll Results 2019: News18-Ipsos poll predicts 2014 repeat for BJP
An exit poll for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections projected a near full sweep for the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party. A News18-Ipsos poll has predicted BJP to win 25-26 seat, while Congress' tally is likely to remain between 0-1.

Voting was held in all 26 constituencies of Gujarat in the third phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on April 23. In 2014, BJP had won all seats in Gujarat, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi had served as chief minister for three full terms.

BJP president Amit Shah, Congress state chief Paresh Dhanani, former union minister and Congress leader Bharatsinh Solanki, former union minister and BJP leader Mohan Kundariya are among the key candidates in Gujarat.

The exit poll results could be disappointing for the Congress party which saw a revival after the State Assembly in 2017. Barring the South Gujarat region, urban in many parts, the BJP lost many seats in Gujarat. The Congress won many seats, came close to a majority in the state assembly, even while it was left without a face that the party could call its prospective chief minister.

Overall, the News18-Ipsos exit poll showed NDA securing 292-3112 seats beating the 62-72 seats by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance, a coalition of opposition parties. The tally of the Congress, which won 44 seats in 2014 — its worst-ever electoral performance — is projected to slide further to 32-37 seats.
