Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav is set to contest from Mainpuri.
Samajwadi Party has released its first list of six candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, a member of parliament from Azamgarh, will contest from Mainpuri constituency.
According to a release by the party, Dharmendra Yadav will contest from Budaun, Akshay Yadav from Firozabad, Kamlesh Katheria from Etawah, Bhailal Kaul from Robertsganj and Shabbir Valmiki from Bahraich.
Dimple Yadav, wife of Akhilesh Yadav, will contest from Kannauj, the party said.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was elected as MP from both Azamgarh and Mainpuri seats in the last Lok Sabha polls. Yadav had won the Azamgarh seat earlier in 1996, 2004 and 2009.
The party, which had performed poorly in the last Lok Sabha polls owing to Modi wave in Uttar Pradesh, is expected to perform much better this time around. The party has formed an alliance with Mayawati’s BSP and has decided to contest from 37 seats in the state while BSP will contest from 38 constituencies.
