Congress slams Centre over RBI's surplus transfer; FM calls it “outlandish”

The Reserve Bank decided to transfer a record Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the government on Monday. This includes a dividend of Rs 1.2 lakh crore and a one-time transfer of Rs 52,000 crore. The decision has now triggered a political debate with the Congress slamming the Centre for the decision.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "PM & FM are clueless about how to solve their self-created economic disaster... stealing from RBI won't work. It's like stealing a band-aid from the dispensary & sticking it on a gunshot wound.''
Reacting to such criticism, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman hit back and called the comments against the central bank are "outlandish" and "worrying".
She added that budget announcements were not connected to Bimal Jalan Committee recommendations and clarified that the panel committee was constituted by RBI and not by the government.
