BJP is biggest liar party in world: Akhilesh Yadav
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday threw a broadside at the BJP terming it the "biggest liar party" and accused it of halving farmers' income even though they came to power with the promise of doubling it. At an election meeting in Jaunpur, he promised to relax the age limit for government jobs and announce vacancies in the police force if the alliance led by his party comes to power in Uttar Pradesh. Yadav sought to counter the BJP's "ghor pariwarwadi (staunch dynast)" jibe directed at him, saying, "We accept that we are family people. Whenever family people like us step out of our houses, they generally bring something like sweets for children.

In this Uttar Pradesh district, which sent former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to Parliament for the first time, the BJP appears to be facing a tough task as it tries to repeat its clean sweep on all four assembly seats. Vajpayee was elected for the first time as a Member of Parliament in 1957 from the Balrampur constituency, which has four assembly constituencies of Balrampur, Gaisri, Utraula and Tulsipur -- all represented by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at present. All the seats of Balrampur will go to the polls in the sixth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election on March 3. Jayant to join Akhilesh, Mamata for joint poll rally in Varanasi on March 3
RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary will be joining Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee for a joint poll rally in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi on Thursday. The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), which is fighting the UP assembly elections in tie-up with Yadav's SP and is its major ally for the western region of the state, made the announcement on social media Wednesday. The joint rally will be held in Airhe village in Harhua block of Varanasi 12 pm onwards, the RLD said. Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, goes to polls on March 7 during the seventh and last phase of assembly polls in UP. Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress supremo, had visited UP earlier on February 7-8 to hold a joint press conference with Yadav in Lucknow where she predicted SP's victory against the BJP, like her party had done in West Bengal state polls last year.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has claimed there have been attempts to make the UP elections communal. Speaking exclusively to Network18's Pranshu Mishra, she lashed out at the opposition and also expressed confidence that Congress will form the government in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa.
BSP seeks to reclaim Ambedkar Nagar citadel in assembly polls
For long considered as the Dalit laboratory of the BSP, Mayawati's party is faced with the daunting task of reclaiming its influence in the five assembly seats of the district after the flight of her senior legislators to the Samajwadi Party. Mayawati, who created the new district of Ambedkar Nagar out of Faizabad (now called Ayodhya) during her tenure as chief minister in 1995, held sway over the area for long before the SP and BJP started denting her citadel in the last two state polls. In the 2012 elections, the SP had wrested from the BSP all the five assembly constituencies -- Katheri, Akbarpur, Jalalpur, Tanda and Alapur-- of Ambedkar Nagar. However, the equation changed in 2017 when the BJP emerged victorious on two seats and the rest three went to Mayawati. The five assembly segments of Ambedkar Nagar will go to vote in the sixth phase on March 3. Mayawati had in the past represented Ambedkar Nagar in the Lok Sabha for six times.
