    SUMMARY

    Workers across the globe are celebrating International Labour Day, popularly called as May Day. Public holiday is declared across many countries on the day that is marked for celebrating the hard work of the labour class. 1st of May was chosen for celebration to commemorate the Haymarket affair that occurred in Chicago on May 1886. The first instance of May Day celebrations happened back in 1904, when the Sixth Conference of the Second International, asked on socialist organizations and trade unions to observe demonstrations on 1st May to demanding eight hours a day working time. And with concerns regarding global peace and economic stability rising amidst rise of protectionism across globe, workers have used this year not only to celebrate but also demonstrate against establishment and voice their concerns. Here are glimpses of some celebrations held across various countries by the working class.
