Want to invest in mutual funds but don’t know how to go about it?
Q: 21-year-old Raj Yadav writes us from Kolkata. I am investing Rs 2,000 in ICICI Prudential Large Cap, Rs 1,000 in Mirae Asset Multi-Cap and Rs 1,000 in HDFC Small Cap. I can invest Rs 4,000 per month. Is the allocation correct or do I need to increase or decrease?
A: You have started investing at 21 so you are ahead of the curve compared to your peer group. You have allocated 100 percent to equities and have a small cap tilt. Both are good for someone looking forward to long investment innings.
Few things to note:
But overall, well done again. Stick to your plan.

Few things to note:
- Key is to keep these SIP going or even increase them over time. Time in the market is the most powerful tool and by starting early, you have that on your side.
- If you can, then link your investment to financial goals. It gives them meaning and makes your saving and investing habit stronger.
- One last thing, resist the urge to add more funds however attractive they might seem at that time. Keep your portfolio simple.
But overall, well done again. Stick to your plan.
