Live Updates

Well that brings us to the end of our live coverage from this game. Don't go anywhere though as we keep you updated with all the action from the other game today at the MCG between New Zealand and Afghanistan. Check out all the updates from that game here

Andy Balbirnie (Ireland Captain & Player of the Match): We were disappointed with losing seven wickets. It was tough, their bowlers had good variations. But we were off the blocks with Lorcan Tucker. It's amazing, kind of emotional. To come here against tournament favourites is amazing. A few of the fans in the crowd have extended their stay. Their support has been wonderful and will do a lot to grow the game back home. We have Afghanistan here on Friday, quick turnaround. Look forward to it. We were fortunate drops did not cost us but we need to improve.

Jos Buttler (England Captain): I thought we were poor in the first 10 overs and let them get away. We were not consistent enough, let them score on both sides of the wicket. The second ten overs were much better. We let them have 20-30 more in the first ten but pulled it back. Myself getting out first over didn't help, we never managed to get initiative. The rain's gotten heavier and heavier, so no problem of coming out when we did. Ireland were excellent, they outplayed us. We made a mistake here and has made it difficult in a tough group.

IRELAND WIN BY 5 RUNS! - The rain gets heavier and the Umpires call a halt to the game. It means that Ireland win by 5 runs on DLS and you can't say they didn't deserve it after that impressive display. England were bogged down by that slow start and maybe could've recovered towards the end but the Rain Gods had other plans. This really splits Group 1 wide open now.

Remember there is another game to be played today at the MCG between New Zealand and Afghanistan which is why the game cannot be indefinitely delayed. There's very little time for England to get the game restarted.

Oct 26, 2022 1:25 PM

UPDATE: It has started to rain now and it's not good news for England fans with their team 5 runs behind the par score as per DLS. England need the game to restart or else it's going to be a famous victory for Ireland today over their neighbours.

FOUR! Moeen is trying to make haste as the rain starts coming down as he slices it over cover.

Oct 26, 2022 1:22 PM

SIX! A tad too short from Delany and Moeen slaps it straight down the ground for a maximum.

CAUGHT! What a start to the over from McCarthy. Malan was struggling to find the right timing and he is done in by the extra bounce. Livingstone walks out and gets off the mark with a single on the 3rd delivery. Moeen isn’t tempted by the short ball as he lets it pass. He then lofts the 5th delivery for FOUR. McCarthy spills the next ball WIDE down leg. He then sends down a sharp bouncer which hits Moeen on the arm as they grab a leg bye. 7 runs and a wicket come off the over.

England 93/5 after 14 overs.

Oct 26, 2022 1:20 PM

FOUR! Moeen makes room and launches the full delivery over mid-off to find the boundary.

Liam Livingstone, right handed bat, comes to the crease

There's the breakthrough for Ireland! Malan gets across the stumps and looks to pull but is done in by the extra bounce as a thick edge carries to third man who covers good ground and takes a fine diving catch.
