Equity indices closed higher on Friday, riding on broad gains sustained in all sector, but particularly banking and FMCG sector.
The Sensex closed at 37,947.88, higher by 284.32 points, or 0.75 percent, while the Nifty 50 surged 85.70 points, or 0.75 percent, to 11,470.75.
For the week, the Sensex surged by 0.3 percent, while the Nifty gained half a percent.
Here’s a list of stocks that trended the most on indices for the week: Nifty gainers Sun Pharma: The best performer stock of the week surged 12.8 percent, posting gains for four successive sessions after strong Q1 results. The pharma scrip ended at Rs 620.90, rising by 0.19 percent. Lupin: Another pharma gainer, the stock ended at Rs 879.95, rising by 3.55 percent. For the week, Lupin gained 8.7 percent. Grasim: The Aditya Birla Group company was up by 7.7 percent for the week. The stock ended higher by 4.33 percent at Rs 1,042.75. GAIL: The stock ended in the red on Friday on profit-booking, slipping 1.37 percent, to Rs 388.40, but for the week surged by 6.6 percent. Tech Mahindra: IT firm rose 6.5 percent on a weekly basis, ending at Rs 688.40, rising by 2.95 percent today.
Other major Nifty gainers for the week include Cipla (4.2 percent), HCL Tech (3.8 percent), ICICI Bank (3.4 percent), Tata Motors (3.1 percent)
Nifty losers HPCL: The state-owned oil marketing company lost 6.3 percent in the week, but surged marginally today to end at Rs 267.40, edging up by 0.47 percent. BPCL: Another state-owned oil marketing firm declined by 6 percent, with the scrip declining by 0.34 percent to Rs 377. Indiabulls Housing: The real estate firm’s stock lost 4.4 percent, but closed higher by half a percent at Rs 1267. HDFC: The financial giant lost 4.4 percent for the week and was one of the biggest drag on the NSE index today as well ending lower at Rs 1882.30, edging down by 0.47 percent. IOC: The stock quoted at Rs 159.50, slightly higher by 0.63 percent, but lost 4 percent for the week.
Other Nifty losers for the week included Vedanta (3.8 percent), UPL (3.1 percent), Bharti Infra (2.6 percent), Zee Entertainment (2.6 percent), Hero MotoCorp (2.1 percent)
Among midcap gainers for the week, shares of Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd surged by nearly 48 percent. Other major gainers were Apollo Hospitals (up 25.7 percent), Kwality (up 21.4 percent).Adani Green with a decline of 17.8 percent was the top midcap loser on a weekly basis. Another notable loser in the pack is Federal Bank, which lost 3.5 percent for the week.
