The benchmark, BSE Sensex, closed down 1.46 percent at 36,305.02, its lowest close since July 11. The broader NSE Nifty ended 1.58 percent lower at 10,967.4, its biggest single-day percentage loss since March 16.
Here's a list of stocks that trended in the market today:
TCS: India’s largest company by market capitalisation ended nearly 5 percent at Rs 2,208. Intraday, it surged to Rs 2,210.50, after opening at Rs 2,115.
Piramal Enterprises: Shares settled 8.55 percent lower to close at Rs 2,510. The stock touched the opening high of Rs 2,768 and a low of Rs 2,493.35.
Jet Airways: Shares declined 6.73 percent to Rs 214, losing Rs 15.45 in value. It fell to a 52-week low of Rs 211.35 intraday.
Central Bank of India: Shares of the PSU lender fell nearly 20 percent to hit their over nine-year low of Rs 42.60. At close, it traded at Rs 44.30, tanking by 16.73 percent.
HDFC: Shares fell to over six-month low of Rs 1,702.80 intraday. It settled at Rs 1,724, down by 6.27 percent at close.
DHFL: Shares of Dewan Housing Finance Corp Ltd ended at Rs 392.15, surging by 11.87 percent, adding Rs 41.60 in value, after Friday's sharp decline to Rs 350.55. The stock touched an intraday high of Rs 438.15.
Indiabulls Housing Finance: NBFC shares ended sharply lower by 7.26 percent to trade at Rs 985, losing Rs 77.15 in value. It opened at Rs 1,132.15, and touched a low of Rs 911.75.
Eicher Motors: Shares of the automobile company dipped to a 525-week low of Rs 25,611 in trade today. It recovered a bit to end at Rs 26,000, but still sharply lower by nearly seven percent or losing Rs 1,940.20 in value.
Mahindra & Mahindra: Shares plunged 6.45 percent to Rs 898 at close. It opened at Rs 955, and touched a low of Rs 885.
HPCL: Share of the PSU refiner traded at Rs 247.80 at close, slipping by 3.95 percent, as crude oil prices went up. Intraday, it hit a low of Rs 245.45, after opening at Rs 256.
