Indian market clocked another record closing high on the last day of the week on Friday.
The Sensex closed above 37,300 after hitting intra-day record high of 37,368.60, while the Nifty settled at 11,278.35, after hitting intra-day record high of 11,283.40.
The benchmark index on the BSE hit record high for the 21st time this year, while the Nifty hit for the 15th time.
ITC was the top contributor to the Nifty gains, after posting strong quarterly earnings for the period ended in June.
ICICI Bank too contributed nearly 50% to the Nifty Bank gains.
Here are the top stocks that trended today: ITC: Share ended at Rs 301.60, rising 5.01%, or by Rs 14.40 on the NSE, after opening at Rs 300 on strong June quarter results. Intra-day, it traded between a high of Rs 307.15 and a low of Rs 295. The cigarette-to-soap maker was the top contributor to the Nifty gains after posting strong quarterly earnings for the period ended in June. At Rs 3,74,207.86 crore, ITC’s market capitalisation has surpassed Hindustan Unilever’s Rs 3,59,978.60 crore. ICICI Bank: The private sector lender’s scrip settled at Rs 292.25, rising by 2.31 percent, or Rs 6.60, on the NSE ahead of its June quarter earnings today. The stock price ranged between Rs 295.15 and 282.20, after opening at Rs 284.90. The stock contributed to nearly 50 percent to the Nifty Bank gains. Hindalco: Shares rose as much as 6.9 percent to Rs 220.80 after the company said on Thursday that US unit Novelis Inc would buy aluminium processor Aleris Corp for $2.6 billion. Hindalco share traded at Rs 213.80, rising by 3.51 percent, or Rs 7.25 in value at close on the BSE. It traded between Rs 220.35 and Rs 207.45. Tata Steel: The steelmaker's stock rose 2.71 percent to highest since July 16, and closed at Rs 549.45, rising by Rs 14.50. It traded in a price range of Rs 553.60 and Rs 535.20 on the BSE. Bharti Airtel: Shares of Bharti Airtel Ltd rose 4.5 percent to Rs 373.90, highest since July 3. The company posted surprise Q1 profit on Thursday, beating analyst estimates. It settled at Rs 362, rising 1.23 percent, or higher by Rs 4.40 on the BSE. The stock opened at Rs 363.90 and has ranged between Rs 373.35 on the upward side and Rs 351.60 on the lower side. Biocon: Shares of Biocon Ltd jumped as much as 9.6 percent to Rs 611.9, its highest in a fortnight. India’s largest biotechnology company reported a 47 percent rise in June-quarter profit on Thursday. It finally closed at Rs 586.82, with gains of Rs 27.75 or rising by 4.96 percent on the BSE. Biocon share had opened at Rs 571.40, and traded between a high and a low of Rs 614 and Rs 570.75, respectively. Stock records biggest daily percent gain since December 4, 2017. Dr Reddy's Labs: The pharma company's stocks fell to close at Rs 2,081.90, losing Rs 52.75 or 2.47 percent in value on the BSE. IL&FS: The shares of transportation network's company gained 19 percent as company announced rights issue worth Rs 3,000 crore. It ended at Rs 43.00, rising by Rs 6.40 or 17.49 percent in value on the BSE. Intra-day, it ranged to trade between Rs 43.80 and Rs 37.35. Reliance Industries Ltd: Share price rallied 2 percent on Friday ahead of April-June quarter earnings. At close, it settled at Rs 1129.60, adding Rs 19.25 or 1.73 percent in value to the stock on the BSE. It ranged between Rs 1137 and Rs 1,112.80 in intra-day trade. Tata Motors: Shares of the automobile company from the Tata Group closed at Rs 267.70, adding Rs 9.20 to the stock in value, or rising by 3.56 percent on the BSE. Intra-day, it touched a high of Rs 269.10 and a low of Rs 258.65.
