The broader NSE index closed 1.3 percent lower at 11,438.10, while the BSE index ended down 1.2 percent at 37,922.17. The indexes tanked as the rupee touched a life-low of 72.68 to the dollar.

Axis Bank: Shares jumped over four percent to hit their lifetime high of Rs 677.95 after the bank appointed Amitabh Chaudhry to replace Shikha Sharma as its managing director and chief executive officer. Shares ended at Rs 651.75, up by nearly a percent.
Tata Global Beverages: Shares of the Tata Group company rose as much as 5.5 percent to Rs 2,35.15 – its biggest intraday percent gain in nearly 10 weeks. Shares ended lower at Rs 22.75, down by 0.22 percent at close.
Il&FS Transportation Networks: Shares of the roads and highways firm tanked 13.79 percent at close to Rs 25.95. The stock opened at the day's high of Rs 29.95 and fell to a low of Rs 25.30.
8K Miles Software Services: Shares ended at the day's low of Rs 284.80, lower by nearly five percent, after starting at the day's high of Rs 312.80.
BPCL: Shares of Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd ended at Rs 344.10, lower by 3.60 percent or by Rs 12.85 on the NSE. It hit 52-week low at Rs 343.50 in intraday trade after starting at Rs 357.

Max Financial Services: Shares of the life insurance company rose 6.39 percent to close at Rs 504.40. It hit a high of Rs 519 intraday, after opening at Rs 475.
Hexaware Technologies: Shares of the software firm rose 3.18 percent to end at Rs 456, adding Rs 14.05 in value to the stock. Intraday, it rose to Rs 462.50 after quoting at Rs 442 in the opening tick.
ABB India: Shares of heavy electrical equipment company rose 2.09 percent to Rs 1,373.35. It hit an intraday high of Rs 1,396.85 after opening at Rs 1,356.
GNA Axles: Shares of GNA Axles jumped seven percent to hit Rs 396.75 in intraday trade today. Shares traded at Rs 390, rising by 5.55 percent or adding Rs 20.50 in value.
