Indian equity market ended lower on Friday, recovering from sharp losses seen after a panic-selling in the mid-afternoon session in non-banking financial companies, which spooked benchmark indexes. The BSE Sensex ended below 36,900, while the NSE Nifty50 settled above 11,150. Midcaps lost massively in trade today with nearly 2.5 percent dragged by NBFCs and financial and bank stocks. Nifty Bank also ended 2.6 percent lower. The rupee volatility also affected trade sentiments. Index heavyweight stocks Reliance Industries and HDFC twins along with select consumer stocks kept losses in check. Here are the main highlights from the stock markets today.
