The Indian market started on a flat note on Friday, but soon turned volatile tracking tepid Asian cues. Overall sentiment was cautious as more corporate earnings of firms like ITC, Dr Reddy's Labs and ICICI Bank are due later in the day.

The Sensex slipped 232 points to 33,457.70 in initial trade, while the Nifty also fell by 0.58 percent to trade at 10,066. Broader market indexes underperformed with the Nifty MidCap slipping 0.58 percent.
Only 2 sectors advanced, led by Nifty Pharma, which was marginally up by 0.26 percent. BSE Metal was under maximum pressure, falling 2 percent, and leading 41 declining sectors.
Tata Motors, Gail, Adani Ports, Tata Steel, Titan Company and Hero MotoCorp were among top index gainers, rising by up to 2 percent. Yes Bank, Indiabulls Housing Finance, NTPC, Hindalco, JSW Steel, Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel and Vedanta declined by up to 5.72 percent.
Yes Bank shares fell more than 10 percent in the pre-open trade after the private sector lender's weak Q2 earnings on account of bad loans.
The Indian rupee opened weaker at 73.42 against the US dollar on Friday. The home currency had closed at 73.27 against the greenback on Thursday.
