Nifty PSU Bank index surges 7% on gains in SBI, BoB and Allahabad Bank

Sensex and Nifty breached its record highs on Thursday ahead of the election results. Big gains were seen in the Nifty PSU Bank index, which emerged as the best-performing sector, and was trading higher by 7.22 percent at 3,383.50.
At 10:45 am, Sensex breached 40,000 level and was trading at 40,090.56, up by 980.35 points or 2.51 percent and Nifty50 was at 12,027.10, up 289.20 points or 2.46 percent.
Nifty PSU Bank index gained the most, led by the gains from Bank of Baroda, which is trading at Rs 141.35 per share, up 12.05 percent on the National Stock Exchange. However, the stock is up 14 percent intra-day to Rs 144.
