Indian shares ended lower on Thursday as a weaker rupee and sustained selling in midcaps weighed on both benchmark indexes. The Sensex ended lower by 23 points to 36,351.23, a decline of 0.06 percent, while the Nifty ended above the 10,950 mark at 10,957.10, lower by 23.35 points, or 0.21 percent.

Kotak Mahindra Bank: Shares see sharp fall after Q1FY19 results. Despite strong loan growth, Kotak Mahindra Bank’s NII growth is the slowest in 8 quarters, leading to lowest profit growth for the bank. Share closed at Rs 1350.25, nearly 4 percent lower on the BSE. Intra-day it touched a high of Rs 1412.35 and a low of Rs 1335.
Hindalco: Shares of Hindalco dropped around 8 percent on Thursday afternoon over reports that it is likely to acquire Aleris for USD 2.5 billion. CNBC-TV18 reported that the company and its Canadian arm, Novelis, is in process of raising debt for the said deal. Hindalco scrip settled at Rs 198.25, down by nearly 6.5 percent on the BSE. It ranged between Rs 214.30 and Rs 194.85, after opening at Rs 213.50.
Bharti Airtel: Share was among top gainers today, after reports that the telco is in in talks with Warburg Pincus to raise as much as $1.5 billion by divesting up to 15% in its holding company for African operations, Bharti Airtel International (Netherlands) BV (BAIN BV). Bharti Airtel share rose 1.69 percent to end at Rs 342.50. It traded between Rs 347.20 and Rs 338.35 on the BSE today.
ONGC: Shares surged after the Cabinet yesterday tweaked pre-1999 oil and gas contracts to provide for proportionate sharing of statutory levies like royalty and cess between the operators of an area. ONGC closed at Rs 161.40, rising 0.69 percent. During the day, it traded between Rs 165.10 and Rs 160.65 on the BSE.
GNA Axles: Shares saw over 6 percent decline around 3pm, after the company’s Q1FY19 net profit rose 26.4 percent at Rs 14 crore against Rs 11.1 crore in the same quarter last fiscal. Revenue was up 46.5 percent at Rs 212.6 crore against Rs 145.1 crore. At close, GNA Axles was at Rs 409.95, declining by 6.69 percent on the BSE.
NIIT Technologies: Shares of NIIT Technologies were down nearly 3 percent on Thursday. The company's consolidated Q1FY19 net profit fell at Rs 85.8 crore against Rs 86.1 crore in Q4FY18. NIIT Tech shares ended the day at Rs 1099.85, losing Rs 21.30 or 1.90 percent, on the BSE. It jumped to a high of Rs 1133.20 and a dipped to a low of Rs 1075.45 on the BSE during the day.
MindTree: Shares fell over 6 percent in the morning trade after the company reported 13 percent drop in its net profit for the June quarter. MindTree’s stock posted biggest daily percent loss since November 9, 2016. About 5 million MindTree shares change hands compared with 30-day average of about 1.4 shares. MidTree’s share traded at Rs 950, down by 10.59 percent, or Rs 112.55 on the BSE at 1.24 pm. At close, it settled at Rs 970.45, losing Rs 92.10, or by 8.67 percent.
Bajaj Finance: Bajaj Finance stock had slipped to the low of Rs 2,357.50 per share post June quarter earnings before recovering 7% to close with a gain of 1.3% at the record closing high of Rs 2,520.
Titan Company: Shares settled at Rs 867.55, higher by 2.74 percent or Rs 23.15, lifting the consumer durable indices.
