Financials lead markets on the last day of the month
HDFC twins and IT stocks helped markets hold on to the opening gains, while Reliance dragged.
The Sensex closed with a gain of 191 points to 35,160, while the Nifty advanced 47 points to 10,739.
In broader markets, Midcap Index surged 1% to 20,290 and the Nifty Bank held on to 25,500.
Reliance dragged the Nifty by 29 points post Q4 earnings, while HDFC supported the upmove by 12 points after company reported Q4 profit higher than estimate.
Kotak Mahindra Bank also closed at a fresh 52-week high post quarterly results which saw company reporting stable asset quality.
In the midcap space, PC Jeweller continued the fall for seventh day in a row, after 33% intra-day move. Share buyback helped the stock open higher, but failed to sustain  momentum, and closed with a fall of 19%.
In derivatives, the Nifty 10,600 & 10,700 Puts were among the active options in the trade, with both the options adding seven lakh and six lakh share each in the open interest.
The Nifty April futures closed with a premium of 44 points against Friday's level of 31.50 points. Amongst stocks, PC Jeweller saw a change of 38% in the open interest with stock falling 20%. Other stocks that were active in futures were, Repco Home, CONCOR and KPIT Tech.
On the global front, the Hong Kong index closed with a gain of 528 points and the Kospi with 23 points. Chinese and Japanese markets were shut for the trade on Monday.

TTK Prestige said permanent workmen who wad gone on strike have returned to work.
Sun Pharma Consumer Health Care announced its entry into the anti-fungal powder OTC category with ABZORB.
Adani Enterprises said the board will consider raising fund via  QIP/GDR/ADR/FCCBs on May 10.
Axis Bank said audit of Axis Bank UK could not be completed for consolidated earnings.
Indiabulls Ventures said the board will consider  preferential issue of equity shares to foreign investors on May 6.
Kalpataru Power said they bagged order worth Rs 1,463 crore.

Posted a net profit of Rs 152.1 crore against Rs 34.3 crore (Y-oY).
Revenue up 33.6% at Rs 838.6 crore against Rs 627.7 crore (Y-o-Y).
EBITDA up 51.3% at Rs 132 crore against Rs 87.2 crore(Y-o-Y).
EBITDA margin at 15.7% against 13.9% (Y-o-Y).
Kotak Mahindra Bank Q4            
Posted a standalone net profit of Rs 1,124 crore against CNBC-TV18 poll of Rs 1,163 crore.
Standalone net interest income (NII) at Rs 2,580 crore against CNBC-TV18 poll of Rs 2,528.1 crore.
Gross NPA at 2.22% against 2.31% (Q-o-Q).
