The BSE Sensex opened 187 points higher at 36,179 points while the NSE Nifty opened 46 points higher at 10,851 points. 

The Indian market opened on a positive note on Monday, in-line with the SGX Nifty indication. The BSE Sensex opened 187 points higher at 36,179 points while the NSE Nifty opened 46 points higher at 10,851 points.

Vedanta surged 6 percent in early trade after the NGT order allowing the reopening of its Tuticorin plant. Along with Vedanta, Power Grid, NTPC, Coal India and Adani Ports were among the top five Nifty gainers.
Zee Entertainment, BPCL, Hero MotoCorpBharti InfratelBajaj Finserv were the top Nifty losers in the opening trade.
On a net basis, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 861.94 crore on Friday, while DIIs sold equities to the tune of Rs 303.52 crore, provisional data showed.
On the global front, Asian share markets started the week on a cautious footing on Monday.
MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was little changed while Japan’s Nikkei was up 0.1 percent in early trade. US stock futures were also almost flat.
The S&P 500 lost 1.91 percent to 2,599.95, marking its lowest close since April 2.
Global investors remained jittery as weak economic data from China and Europe added to evidence of cooling global growth and reinforced anxiety over the impact of international trade frictions on business and profits.
