Indiabulls Housing Finance and Yes Bank were the top two losers on the Nifty, while Tata Steel and ONGC shares gained.
Broader market indices also closed lower with both the Nifty and BSE midcap indexes closing well above half a percent mark. Only four sectors advanced out of 44 largely led by metal.

Nifty50: The broader 50-share NSE index settled at 11,906, down by 59 points, or 0.50 percent. So far this year, the Nifty has added over 1,043 points, rising 9.61 percent.
Sensex: The 30-share benchmark BSE index fell 193 points, or 0.48 percent, to settle at 39,756.81. So far this year, the BSE index has surged over 10.23 percent, adding 3688 points.
HDFC Bank: The private sector lenders' shares dipped 0.81 percent in trade today, quoting at Rs 2,429.50 on NSE.
HDFC: The HDFC group's NBFC stock settled at Rs 2,185, down by 0.24 percent.
Reliance Industries: The oil-telecom-retail conglomerates' shares rose 0.19 percent at close, settling at Rs 1,331.10 on NSE.
Hindustan Unilever: The FMCG major's stock closed at Rs 1,844.70 per share, marginally up 0.16 percent at close on NSE.
Tata Consultancy Services: The IT major settled 0.25 percent higher, closing at Rs 2,258.45 per share on NSE.
Nifty Bank: The banking gauge settled almost 1 percent lower at 30965.70, down 299.75 points. So far this year, Nifty Bank has gained over 14 percent.
Nifty Auto: The index fell 1.13 percent to settle at 8147. So far this year, it has corrected by almost 11.79 percent.
Nifty IT: The IT index slipped 0.13 percent to settle at 16,426. So far this year, it has gained 13.75 percent.
Nifty FMCG: So far this year, Nifty FMCG has lost 0.45 percent. It settled 0.22 percent higher on Tuesday at 30379.
Nifty Metal: The metal index gained 0.39 percent to settle at 2962. So far this year, the index has lost 6.10 percent.
