    Violent crime involving knives and guns, especially in London, has been in the headlines a lot in recent months, but are these kind of offences really on the rise?
    Looking at violent crimes committed in the UK, involving knives, according to the most recent Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures, 2017 did indeed see rises compared to 2016.
    Homicide involving a knife or sharp instrument increased by 26 percent. Similarly, attempted murder went up by 20 percent and rape involving a knife by 19 percent.
    Commenting on the changes, Alexa Bradley at the ONS said, "We have seen an increase in the relatively rare, but "high-harm" violent offences such as homicide, knife crime and gun crime, a trend that has been emerging over the previous two years".
