Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated India's longest rail-road bridge, the Bogibeel bridge. It also boasts of being the second longest one in Asia.

The first passenger train passing through the Bogibeel bridge will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.

The 4.9-km bridge will cut down the train-travel time between Tinsukia in Assam to Naharlagun town of Arunachal Pradesh by more than 10 hours.

It is one of the most important infrastructure projects in North-East, which has been in the making for 21 years.

The Bogibeel bridge connects the south bank of the Brahmaputra river in Assam's Dibrugarh district with Silapathar in Dhemaji district, bordering Arunachal Pradesh. The lower deck is a two-track rail bridge, while the upper deck is three track rail-bridge.
