The Zojila Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir which was won by crisis-hit Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS) last year in May, maybe put up for bidding again, The Economic Times reported, citing sources.
According to the report, the government has asked the new board of the company to inform it at the earliest if the company can undertake the construction.
“We have asked them to tell us whether they are capable of undertaking this project. If not, the government must not waste any more time," sources told the paper.
The Zojila project, on Srinagar-Kargil-Leh national highway, will be the country’s longest road tunnel, around 14.2 km.
According to the report, the road transport and highways ministry is worried whether the project will be completed as per the schedule as IL&FS currently struggles due to financial crisis.
