Defence ministry official put on record objection to Rafale deal, says report
A senior Ministry of Defence official has raised questions about the benchmark price of 36 Rafale jets in a deal that was signed between the then defence minister Manohar Parrikar and his French counterpart in New Delhi in September 2016, The Indian Express reported.
The then joint secretary & acquisition manager (Air) raised the concerns and was responsible for the initiation of the note for Cabinet’s approval, the report said citing unnamed sources.
His objections delayed the Cabinet note and the signing happened after his bjections were “overruled” by another senior defence ministry official, according to the report.
The note by the  joint secretary currently with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), who is likely to submit its report by the winter session of Parliament in December.
