CBI starts probe in anti-Sterlite protests case. Families of 13 victims who died&around 40 injured in the firing recorded their statements.Document relating to 15 weapons used in the firing collected. Examination of Tamil Nadu Police & Revenue Dept officials underway: CBI Sources

The Central Bureau of Investigation has started probe into the anti-Sterlite protests in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi, reported news agency ANI on Monday, citing sources.
The sources told the news agency that CBI has recorded the statements of families of 13 victims who died when police opened fire on a demonstration against Vedanta’s copper smelter in the state in May.
Document relating to 15 weapons used in the firing have also been collected by the investigation agency, the sources told ANI, adding that the examination of police and revenue department officials was underway.
The Madras High Court, on December 21, ordered status quo as existed before the National Green Tribunal set aside a Tamil Nadu government order for closure of Sterlite's copper unit in Tuticorin.
The case was filed in the high court by anti-Vedanta campaigner Fatima Babu, challenging a decision by the national green tribunal which set aside the state government's order.
On May 28, the state government ordered the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board to seal and "permanently" close the mining group's copper plant following violent protests by locals over pollution concerns.
