Former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director and former governor of Nagaland Ashwani Kumar on Wednesday died by suicide at his residence in Brockhorst in Shimla.
He was presently Vice-Chancellor of a private university in Shimla.
Kumar became CBI director in 2008, succeeding Vijay Shanker, in the midst of the agency's probe into the Aarushi Talwar murder case that hogged the headlines.
He has worked in various positions in CBI and elite SPG, hails from Nahan, a small hill town, in Himachal Pradesh. He completed his doctorate from the Himachal Pradesh University.
Kumar did his Ph.D. in management and has a master's degree in business administration with specialisation in human resources management.
An IPS officer of Himachal Pradesh Cadre, Kumar has also served in the elite Special Protection Group dealing with the security of the Prime Minister of India.
