The union government has preponed the launch of the scheme due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly having a busy schedule on September 25.

Modi will now launch the healthcare scheme in Jharkhand on Sunday.

Just two days to go for the launch of India's biggest healthcare scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyan (PMJAY) or Ayshman Bharat, the government is still not ready with the implementation plan, reported Business Standard.

The number of hospitals under the scheme are just about 8,000, lower than the targeted number, said the BS report, adding that the government is expecting for more tertiary hospitals to enroll as the scheme catches up.

The union government has preponed the launch of the scheme due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly having a busy schedule on September 25, the official date for the launch, said the report. Modi will now launch the healthcare scheme in Jharkhand on Sunday.

The nation’s think tank NITI Aayog will work alongside the Union Health Ministry to expedite the operating procedures required for the treatment under the scheme, sources familiar with the development told the paper.

“Till then doctors will treat patients in the manner they deem fit. Some Southern states already have treatment protocols and we are trying to work around those to bring national-level protocols for the scheme,” a senior official said.
