COVID-19: DPIIT sets up control room to monitor status of essential goods delivery, manufacturing

DPIIT took this step after various reports suggested supply disruptions of essential items across the country on the first two days of lockdown.

There were also reports of delivery staff being harassed by the police while discharging their duty.

The helpline number will be functional between 8 am and 6 pm.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has set up a control room to monitor in real-time the status of manufacturing, transportation, and delivery of essential goods to the common man.

DPIIT took this step after various reports suggested supply disruptions of essential items across the country on the first two days of lockdown. There were also reports of delivery staff being harassed by the police while discharging their duty.

“In the event of any manufacturing, transporter, distributor, wholesaler or e-commerce companies facing ground level difficulties in transportation and distribution of goods or mobilization of resources, the same may be informed to the Department at the following telephone number/ email: Telephone: + 91 11 23062487; Email: controlroom-dpiit@gov.in,“ commerce ministry said in a statement on Friday.

The telephone number will be functional between 8 am and 6 pm. The issues reported by various stakeholders will be taken up by the department with the state government, district and police authorities, and other agencies concerned, it said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced a nationwide lockdown from March 25 to April 14.

Coronavirus death toll in India has risen to 16, with over 600 positive cases. Globally, the number of cases is nearly 4 lakh with more than 21,000 deaths.
