Concerns over Covaxin are based on unconfirmed reports, says Council of Scientific Research DG Dr Shekhar Mande

"Concerns over Covaxin are based on unconfirmed reports, people should feel safe to take both Covaxin and Covishield," said Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Dr Shekhar Mande.

CNBC-TV18's Timsy Jaipuria spoke to Dr Mande to find why there are concerns being raised by doctors' associations regarding Covaxin.

"I would say that concerns are bit unfounded and are based on unconfirmed reports that people are talking about. Both the vaccines have undergone very extensive safety trials in phase one and they have elicited a good immune response in phase two. So I don't see anything wrong in taking the vaccine," he said.

Speaking about expectation from Budget 2021, Mande said, "We are expecting about 20 percent increase from the revised estimates that we have presented last year. Within the constraints that different governments have, we do indeed need to raise funding for science and technology."
